Western GeneralThe Western General Hospital provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist services to the people of Edinburgh, Lothian and beyond.

With 800 inpatient beds, the hospital is home to both regional centres for cancer and clinical neuroscience, and it is also Edinburgh’s centre for the treatment of infectious diseases. Staff at the hospital have also pioneered an award-winning nurse-led Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) for the treatment of minor ailments. Open from 8am to 9pm every day, the MIU now cares for more than 20,000 patients a year.

The Western General is part of NHS Lothian’s University Hospitals Division. To find out more about the history of the Western General Hospital, please visit our history pages.
