Welcome

Welcome to the Ratho Surgery website where we hope you will find information about our healthcare services. You can also find out when we’re open and what to do when we’re not, all from the comfort of your own home.

The practice team are dedicated to your continued good health and approach your care with professionalism.

The practice normally agrees to accept all patients requesting to join its list. We do not discriminate on grounds of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, appearance, social class, religion, disability or medical condition.

Opening times

The practice is open Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1300 and from 1400 to 1800. We are closed between 1300 and 1400 although the phone will be answered if you have an urgent requirement that cannot wait until we re-open. In a genuine emergency please call the emergency services on 999.

When we are closed

Outside of normal surgery hours, emergency cover is provided by NHS24 on 111. If you need to see a doctor the adviser will arrange an appointment with Lothian Unscheduled Care Service (LUCS).

Please note all telephone calls are recorded.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999.

Appointments

We offer a booked appointment service. All appointments with a GP are 10 minutes long although you may ask for a longer appointment if you feel your needs are more complex. Just ask the receptionist when you phone to make an appointment.

Appointments with the practice nurses vary depending on what you are being seen for. The receptionist will advise you on appointment time lengths.

Appointments with the phlebotomist (blood taking) are 10 minutes long.

Appointments are available every morning and some afternoons.

Please make sure you check in at reception for your appointment. If you do not check in the clinician you are seeing will not know that you have arrived and will not call for you in the waiting room, and you may have a long wait to be seen.
