Teaching and Training

The Rivers Centre runs training courses and conferences for a wide range of professionals involved in the management of trauma, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, lawyers and the voluntary sector.

Every two years we host a national trauma conference where delegates have the opportunity to hear guest speakers who are international experts in the field of trauma. Past keynote addresses and workshops have included: Psychological First Aid and Early Interventions; Working with Complex Trauma; PTSD and the Media; and Gulf War Syndrome.

The Rivers Centre is also a clinical training centre, where trainee psychiatrists, clinical psychology trainees, medical students, art therapy students, and students from allied healthcare disciplines can elect to do specialist trauma placements, under the supervision of our senior clinicians.

The Centre also has close links with the UK Psychological Trauma Society (UKPTS) and the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS), and is one of the sites that provides training for the ESTSS Trauma Certificate.
