At the MSLC meetings, which are held every 2 months, parents and members of users support groups meet with midwives and other medical staff, as well as staff who manage the service.

The committee's role is to ensure that the best quality of maternity services is available to the women of Lothian and their partners.

We discuss everything from care during pregnancy, scans, parenthood classes, to care in labour, feeding choices and the care of mother and baby once they are back home. We also look at what information is available to help mothers and their partners decide what is best for themselves and their baby.

The committee makes recommendations to the medical and management staff and to the Health Board and follows up any action that has been agreed.

The meetings take place in Edinburgh in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, 51 Little France Crescent, Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4SA on Thursday mornings (10 to 12 noon). Members' travelling expenses are reimbursed. There are no creche facilities at the moment (although this could be considered) but child care costs are reimbursed.
