A dietician will provide help and support for adults:

  • Through assessment, treatment and monitoring clients who require artificial feeding either wholly or partially
  • Through assessment, treatment and monitoring clients who require oral nutritional supplements (ONS)
  • By dietary planning for clients who require dietary modification for certain conditions e.g. gluten free diet for adults with Downs Syndrome and Coeliac Disease
  • Using nutritional analysis of food and fluid intake where nutrition is thought to be compromised i.e. ASD / dysphagia
  • Through staff and carer training to ensure consistency of dietary information i.e. complex obesity / unintentional weight loss
  • Via accessible specialist weighing clinics to maintain and promote good health
  • By working alongside the learning disability team, acute dietetic colleagues and other agencies to ensure continuity of care
  • By participating at a local and national level in nutritional policy, quality and research initiatives that influence developments in nutrition and food and reduce health inequality
  • By providing student dieticians placements in learning disability teams to gain experience
  • Through provision of accessible dietary information
