To determine the cause of infertility and subsequent planning of appropriate treatment, a series of investigations will be carried out for you and your partner. These will vary between couples and we have provided a generalised scheme below.  

Basic Investigations

Investigations for Women
 
Investigations for Men
We recommend these routine investigations for all women before their appointment at the fertility clinic:
·         Rubella
·         Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea
·         Progesterone
 
For women over the age of 35, the following additional tests may be carried out:
·         Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
·         Oestradiol (E2)
 
For women who do not have regular periods, the following additional tests may be appropriate:
·         Luteinising Hormone (LH)
·         Prolactin
·         Testosterone
·         Thyroid Function Tests (TFTs)
 
The following investigations may be carried out prior to IVF, ICSI or PGD:
·         Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)
·         Antral Follicle Count​
 
 
Routine investigation for all men before attending an appointment at the fertility clinic:
·         Semen Analysis
 
In some men with an abnormal sperm sample, the following tests may be required:
·         Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
·         Luteinising Hormone (LH)
·         Testosterone
·         Chromosome Analysis (karyotype)
