Diabetes Professional Education

2017 courses for registered staff:
The Diabetes Managed Clinical Network is committed to developing and supporting diabetes education for all healthcare professionals.  Alongside many informal training programmes we offer peer-reviewed courses for both registered and non-registered staff as well as a more comprehensive degree module delivered in collaboration with Queen Margaret University.

Diabetes for Registered Staff (Nurses and AHPs)

This course is appropriate for registered nurses and AHPs working in hospital and community settings. 
This is a one day course from 9:00am to 5:30pm, participants will be given pre-course work which will be required to be completed prior to the course.  Pre-course work should take approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Diabetes for Non-Registered Staff

This is a one day course appropriate for nursing auxiliaries, clinical support workers, healthcare assistants, social care workers and care home staff.

This course is free to NHS Lothian staff.  For non-NHS employees the course costs £20.

Management of Diabetes (MoD) Module

This 5 day accredited course is delivered over eight months in collaboration with Queen Margaret University and has been developed for trained staff of any discipline who wish to update their skills in diabetes. It comprises a total of 300 hours of study (30 hours taught, 130 hours guided study, 134 self-directed, 6 hours clinical experience). A summative assessment is done by completion of two written assignments; a case study and an audit of diabetes practice.

This course is appropriate for General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Community Nurses, Pharmacists and AHPs working with patients with diabetes.

February 2017 MoD course dates

The next course will start in February 2017 on the following dates:

Days 1 and 2: February 6th and 7th

Day 3: March 29

Day 4: May 8th (assignment one due)

Day 5: June 20th (assignment two due 8 weeks after Day 5)
