Outreach Services

The Scottish Adult CF Service at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh provides outreach support for patients in 3 additional geographical areas in Scotland.

The Dundee Adult CF Service is 60 miles from the Western General Hospital. Dr Helen Rodgers runs a weekly Adult CF clinic at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with support from CF Specialist nurses, dietitian, physiotherapist and psychologist. Inpatient care can be provided in Dundee, however patients are offered admission to Edinburgh under the Adult service described above.

Raigmore Hospital is 150 miles from the Western General Hospital. For reasons of distance, adult CF patients in the NHS Highland region receive shared care with Edinburgh. On site care is undertaken by the Respiratory consultants at Raigmore Hospital supported by CF specialist nurse, dietitian and physiotherapist. Every 3 months a team from the Edinburgh Adult Service travel to hold an outreach clinic in Inverness with the local team. Inverness patients have the choice of being admitted to Edinburgh under the care of the Adult Service or being admitted locally in Inverness.

Dumfries is 85 miles from the Western General Hospital.  Patients from Dumfries and Galloway may receive some local care for straightforward problems from Dr Stuart Little at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary in consultation with the Edinburgh Service. Shared care arrangements are in place for these patients. All patients from this region are also seen regularly in Edinburgh and are admitted in Edinburgh for complex needs or specialist procedures.
