Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2017

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2017 takes place across Scotland in October each year, aiming to support the arts and challenge preconceived ideas about mental health. The festival is entering its 11th year and this year’s theme is Reclaim’. Across Scotland the festival attracts over 25,000, with over 300 events staged throughout the country, including film, performing arts, literature, music and visual arts.
A partnership between NHS Lothian, mental health organisations, people with lived experience and advocacy organisations support the delivery of the festival.  Using art as the medium, we are challenging stigma about mental health issues, promoting recovery, and empowering people with lived experience of mental health problems to create art, share their personal narratives, and connect to their communities.
There will be whole host of exciting film, theatre, music, spoken word events and exhibitions taking place across Edinburgh and the Lothian’s throughout October some exploring the theme of Reclaim, for example, Reclaim our Stories, Reclaim our Space,  Reclaim our Voice, and Reclaim our Futures!
Our ambitious and bold programme is packed with activity, and we urge you to look for what's taking place near you. A brochure will be available nearer the time.
You are welcome to join us for the launch of the Edinburgh and Lothian’s festival on 10th October at Summerhall. This will include an opportunity to preview the multi-media exhibition “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”.
