Developing the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

In order to build the new hospital a significant amount of development works have been required at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. These have taken place in order to prepare the grounds and current hospital for the integration of the new building. These works will continue over the next few years until the hospital is opened in spring 2018.

The works have included; a new bus hub, changes to the road layouts on site, flood defence works at the Niddrie Burn and a new car park for staff (Car Park F).

Inside the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh we are building a new Renal and Transplant Unit on the second floor, redeveloping the Critical Care department in order to incorporate the patients coming from the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

Medical Photography will also undergo an upgrade in order to take on children’s activity, and this is a similar story for the Pharmacy Department which will be expanded and redeveloped to include a new automated robotic system.

The project teams and contractors carrying out the works are doing everything possible to minimise disruption and we would ask patients, visitors and staff for their patience and understanding while these works are taking place.
