Building a Healthier Future

Ensuring the availability of appropriate, clean and safe healthcare environments is central to the delivery of high quality healthcare in NHS Lothian.

NHS Lothian's vision is for major hospital services to be focused around four main sites, with acute services to be located on its three major hospital campuses, where masterplans are being developed.

  • Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
  • Western General Hospital
  • St John’s Hospital

The fourth, the Royal Edinburgh Campus redevelopment, has obtained planning consent for a masterplan developed to facilitate the first phase of the redevelopment which is anticipated to start construction in late 2014.

While NHS Lothian aims to expand the amount of care provided in the community and is supporting a programme of projects in primary and community care (Medical Centres, Health Centres and Partnership Centres).

NHS Lothian believes in the healthcare value of bricks and mortar and working together with our partners across the country we will providing modern, fit-for-purpose facilities for our patients and staff.

Together we are commited to building a healthier future for the people of Lothian and beyond.
