Travel information for Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Works to connect the water main to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Department of Clinical Neurosciences will begin next week (Monday 22 August).

The project will see a new connection installed to the existing water main located on the A7 (Old Dalkeith Road), and will provide the new building with water when it opens to patients.

The project will result in temporary road works on the A7, the road running outside the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, lasting for around four weeks.

NHS Lothian has done all it can to lessen the impact on road users but is warning of potentially extended journey times for the period of the works.

Lyn McDonald, Site Director, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian, said: “We do anticipate that these temporary works will cause some inconvenience and extended journey times getting along the road and into the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

“We will do all we can to minimise disruption but expect the roads to be busy at peak times. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your understanding as we progress with these works.”

Craigmillar Castle Road will be completely closed for the first two weeks of the works and a temporary traffic lights system will be in place throughout.

Contingencies are in place to ensure that emergency vehicles and blue light access is maintained throughout the duration of these works.
