Green for go at Ratho

Work on a new £1.5m GP surgery in Ratho is set to start in January 2017 after contracts were agreed by NHS Lothian and the local developer of the site.

The project will see the surgery moving from its existing location on Baird Road to a new purpose-built facility at 14a Wilkieston Road. The current property at Wilkieston Road will be demolished by the developer, and a new two storey building constructed in its place.

The ground floor will be used for the new GP surgery, and the upper floor will allow for future expansion of services for the people of Ratho and the surrounding areas.

The modern, fit-for-purpose surgery will have more consulting rooms and a treatment room which will benefit local patients and enable the practice to increase capacity.

Rob McCulloch-Graham, Chief Officer, Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “This is a significant day for the people of Ratho who can now look forward to having a new GP surgery in the village.

“Lots of hard work has gone into this project and I’m delighted to announce that work will start in January, and will open to patients in winter 2017.

“We are pleased to have come to an agreement with the Kiltane Group to develop the site at Wilkieston Road, and look forward to seeing the surgery welcome its first patients next year.”

NHS Lothian will lease the GP Surgery from the Kiltane Group who are developing the site.

Mark Keane from The Kiltane Group, said: “We look forward to the delivery of a first class medical facility for the people of Ratho. I’m confident it will have the capacity to meet the expansion plans of the village over the longer term.”

Designs of the new surgery will be shared with the local community and can be found on the project’s pages on the NHS Lothian website – www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/rathosurgery
