Plans for new Ratho Surgery

Proposals for a new GP surgery in Ratho have moved forward after a planning application was submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council.

The project will see the current surgery relocated from Baird Road to a new purpose built facility on Wilkieston Road.

Under the proposed plans the existing property at 14a Wilkieston Road will be demolished by the developer and a new two storey building developed in its place. NHS Lothian will then lease the ground floor.

The new medical centre will have five consulting rooms, one treatment room, a waiting area and a staff meeting room.

The development will also have on-site parking and will be accessible by public transport.

Peter Gabbitas, Director, Edinburgh Community Health Partnership said: “The submission of the planning application is a significant milestone for this project and we are keen to maintain the momentum moving ahead.

“The new surgery will provide improved and modern accommodation for the growing local community.”

Construction of the new surgery is anticipated to start by the end of 2015 and is expected to open to patients by the middle of 2016.

Mark Keane, one member of the group who will be developing the new surgery, said: “We look forward to working with NHS Lothian to deliver a first class facility for the people of Ratho and the surrounding population.”

The plans for the new surgery will be displayed within the local community and you can find out more about the development at the Ratho Surgery project website: www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/rathosurgery.
