£1.5 million Tranent Health Centre extension opens

The new £1.5 million extension to Tranent Health Centre has been completed and will fully open to the public later this week.
The extension and refurbishment of the existing facility started last November (2013) and has been completed to budget, one month ahead of schedule.

As well as providing additional facilities, including eight new consulting rooms, the development will mean a wider range of services for patients visiting the practice, including some visiting services that have had to re-locate elsewhere in recent years.
These visiting services will include, midwives, community nursing, speech and language therapy, counselling, community psychiatric, substance misuse services, podiatry and sexual health.

David Small, Joint Director, East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership said: “We are delighted that work to extend Tranent Health Centre has been completed ahead of schedule.
“The new extension will offer local communities additional facilities and will help to meet the healthcare needs of the growing population in the area.
“This extension, added to the refurbishment of the current building, will enable the Practice to provide a wider range of services in a new fit-for-purpose building.”

Ian Bruce, Business Manager, Tranent Health Centre is confident that the new development will bring many benefits to patients.
He said: “The medical practice has grown over recent years as the population of the town has increased, but we’d reached the point where we couldn't expand any further because of space constraints.
“The extension to the Health Centre will enable us to continue developing our services to meet the needs of the people of the Tranent area in the years ahead.”
The extension and refurbishment has been delivered in partnership with NHS Lothian and Hub South East Scotland Ltd.

Paul McGirk, Chief Executive of Hub South East Scotland, said: “We’re proud to have played our part in the early delivery of this excellent refurbished and extended facility for the community in Tranent. We have worked in partnership with NHS Lothian to ensure that staff and patients benefit from modern, fit for purpose accommodation and we look forward to continuing this positive working relationship on future developments.”
Eddie Robertson, Regional Director for Morrison Construction, said: “This project has allowed us to build on our association with the East Lothian area and play a key role, working with Hub South East Scotland Ltd and NHS Lothian, to design and construct this first class facility at the heart of the community of Tranent, meeting the growing needs of the area’s population.
“We understood the importance to our client to have these vital facilities operational as soon as possible and are delighted to have completed them three weeks ahead of programme and on budget.”
