NHS Lothian 8th Annual Child Protection Conference

Health and social care professionals will have the opportunity to learn more about effective interventions in relation to protecting children at NHS Lothian’s 8th Annual Child Protection Conference.  The conference which takes place today, Thursday 14 June 2012 at Edinburgh Napier University will focus on how to protect children and support families with problems relating to alcohol and drug use.

A number of practitioners from children’s and adult services, general practitioners and students of health related subjects, education, social work, police and voluntary sector will attend the event.

Melanie Hornett, NHS Lothian Nurse Director, said: “A conference of this nature enables staff from health, police, social services and education to come together and share knowledge and experience. Our annual conference has become an important event in raising awareness of child protection issues among multi-agency professionals and encourages and strengthens partnership working.” 

One of the key speakers, Dr David McCartney, NHS Lothian’s Clinical Lead, at LEAP, (Lothians and Edinburgh Abstinence Programme)  will discuss the role recovery may play in prevention and early intervention to protect children from families struggling with alcohol and drug problems.
