Land Transfer Deal Signed

A new sick children's hospital has taken a "significant" step forward after a deal agreeing to transfer land to NHS Lothian was signed.

All parties have signed the agreement which hands over the land, currently occupied by a car park at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, to the health board.

Susan Goldsmith, Director of Finance, NHS Lothian, said:

"We are pleased that discussions with Consort and their funders over changes to the original Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh PFI contract in relation to the project have now concluded and that Supplemental Agreement 6 (SA6) has been signed by all parties.
"This agreement will allow the site currently occupied by car park B at RIE to transfer to NHS Lothian and is a significant step in this important project.
"We are working with the Scottish Futures Trust on the next steps in the procurement process. This includes having the Outline Business Case agreed by Scottish Government and preparing to advertise the project in the Official Journal of the European Journal (OJEU)."

Stephen Gordon, Director, Consort Healthcare, said:

"We are very pleased to confirm that agreement has been reached on the RIE Land Swap and that the legal framework is now in place"
