Industrial Action

Dr David Farquharson, Medical Director, NHS Lothian said:

“We have been advised by the BMA (British Medical Association) of their intention to take industrial action on Thursday 21 June 2012.

“NHS Lothian has planned ahead for this to make sure that, as far as possible, patients are not disrupted or inconvenienced.  We anticipate providing as full a service as possible. However, regrettably some non-emergency surgery and outpatient clinics will need to be postponed.

“We are in the process of contacting those patients to advise them of this and that we will be in touch very soon to rearrange their postponed surgery/appointment.

“We should stress that patients who don’t receive a letter should turn up for their surgery/appointment as planned."

All GP practices will be open that day however, many will be dealing with emergencies only and would ask patients to contact their own GP to determine what services are available.

“NHS 24 (08454 242424) is also available for anyone looking for health advice.
