National recognition for NHS Lothian service

Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT) shortlisted for prestigious award

NHS Lothian’s award winning Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT) has been shortlisted for another prestigious accolade.

IHTT, set-up in Edinburgh in 2008, has been shortlisted in the Innovation in Mental Health category at the upcoming Health Service Journal Awards and will be Scotland’s sole representatives at the ceremony.

Providing a 24/7 community alternative to hospital care, IHTT healthcare professionals provide care and support for people in their homes, helping to reduce repeat admissions and often resulting in early discharge from hospital.

Mark Taylor, Consultant Psychiatrist, IHTT, NHS Lothian, said:

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for this highly sought after award.
“IHTT, as part of NHS Lothian, represent the only Scottish health board on the shortlist and that is a great achievement. The whole team have managed to achieve some wonderful results over the last three years and being recognised in this way is testament to all their hard work.”

IHTT is staffed with experienced nurses, including a nurse consultant, psychiatrists, a psychologist, occupational therapists, support workers and approved social workers.

Dr Charles Winstanley, Chairman, NHS Lothian, added:

“The IHTT provide an excellent service and the results speak for themselves. This type of national recognition shows the pioneering, innovative and extremely worthwhile work that they do.”
