NHS Lothian welcomes HEI report on the RHSC

NHS Lothian has welcomed the Healthcare Environment Inspectorate’s (HEI) report on the announced inspection of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC), published today Wednesday 27 July.

The report, relating to an inspection on 15 and 16 June 2011, noted that the hospital was very clean and recognised that information regarding healthcare associated infections was available in a format suitable for a children’s hospital.

Jackie Sansbury, chief operating officer, university hospitals division, NHS Lothian, said:

“We are pleased that today’s report recognises the efforts being made by the team at the RHSC in both infection control and cleanliness. The HEI identified four requirements as a result of their visit, two of these have already been addressed and we will be working over the coming months to ensure compliance with the remaining two.
“All of the issues raised have been carefully studied and we have an action plan in place to ensure we use the findings of this report to build on our existing high standards and further improve the service at the RHSC.
“It is reassuring that the HEI found communication between staff to be working well, and, vitally, that parents appear happy with the facts they receive, and with the cleanliness of the wards.”
