Minor Injuries Clinic Prepares for Another Busy New Year

As 80,000 visitors descend on the capital for Hogmanay, the Minor Injuries Clinic is well prepared for its busiest time of the year.

The Minor Injuries Clinic at the Western General Hospital is open 365 days a year from 8am – 9pm and offers assessment, treatment and pain relief if required.

It is a walk-in service, so no appointment is required for treatment from a range of staff, including nurse, physiotherapy and paramedic practitioners.

The A&E department in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is the busiest in Scotland and patients with less serious injuries can often receive faster treatment at the Minor Injuries Clinic.

Elaine Pollard, lead nurse practitioner, NHS Lothian, said:

"New Year is the busiest time of the year for us and we have made sure that we are fully prepared by increasing staffing levels on New Year’s Eve and the days that follow, from 8am until 9pm.
"I would urge anyone who is celebrating this weekend to take extra care so they don’t have to pay us a visit."
