Designs for new hospital for children and young people go on show

The concept designs for Lothian’s new hospital for children and young people will go on show next week.

A series of public information events will be held over the coming weeks to allow members of the public and NHS Lothian staff to view and comment on the proposed development.

The new hospital, due to open in 2013, will provide 21st century care in a happy, safe and supportive environment suited to the needs of children, young people and their families – and will help NHS Lothian deliver its vision to be one of the top 25 healthcare providers in the world.

Children, young people, families and staff have already had considerable input into the design process and their ideas and suggestions have been incorporated into the concept designs going on display.

Brian Currie, Project Director, NHS Lothian said:

“We want the new hospital to be at the leading edge of clinical care for children and are working hard to ensure it is a worthy replacement for our current children's hospital - continuing 150 years of pioneering paediatric healthcare in the Lothians.
“The location of the new hospital, next to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France, will ensure we provide the safest possible hospital care for children, with the dedicated team of clinical staff able to work closely with their colleagues in both maternity and adult services.”
