New national image for NHS Lothian

A new era for NHS Lothian was launched today (Tuesday 12 January) when new recruits Claire Watt and Sally Dedecker became the first members of staff to receive their new national uniforms.

The uniform will have a positive impact on patients and staff, promoting a new corporate image for NHSScotland and helping patients and the general public to identify NHS staff and their respective roles. The new uniform is also more comfortable and better suits the needs of staff.

Melanie Hornett, Director of nursing NHS Lothian said:

“The time was right to develop and implement a national uniform. We needed greater simplicity and consistency to put our patients more at ease and help build trust between them and staff.
“For staff, the new uniform had to be more practical, helping them to carry out every day tasks such as manual handling.
“I’m sure the new uniform will be very well received by patients and staff and over time it will become synonymous with our high levels of care and deserved professional image.”

The new uniform will be phased in over the next two years.
