Ellen’s Glen House Celebrates a Decade of Care

Ellen’s Glen House, NHS Lothian’s care of the elderly facility in south Edinburgh is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

To mark the anniversary staff, visitors and patients will enjoy a traditional afternoon tea and a colourful fireworks display later in the evening.

Ellen’s Glen House is a two storey building with extensive, accessible garden grounds.  The building is laid out in two wings, providing a total of 60 beds, catering for the frail elderly and those with enduring mental health illnesses.

Charles Winstanley, Chair, NHS Lothian, said:

“This is a time to celebrate 10 years of quality care. Ellen’s Glen House shows the best of NHS Lothian, giving people a home from home. I hope it is a day that both staff and patients enjoy.”

Alison Mac Donald, Clinical Services Development Manager, Edinburgh Community Health Partnership (CHP) said:

"I am delighted to have been invited to participate in today’s celebrations which have been organised for our patients. All the staff have made a real effort to make this a day special.”

Graham Kelly, Walker Partnerships Ltd said:

“Ellen’s Glen House is an excellent example of true long-term partnership working between the public and private sectors with the focus being very much on what can be achieved for patients and we look forward to an equally good next 10 years.”

Ellen’s Glen House opened in November 1999 and was the second NHS facility provided in Lothian through the PFI route, the building being built and operated by the Partnerships Division of James Walker (Leith) Limited in partnership with NHS Lothian.
