NHS celebrates Diamond 60th Anniversary

series of events is planned across NHS Lothian to mark this important birthday.

We are also working with the Scottish Government and taking part in national events.

These events will be a celebration of a landmark birthday - we'll be looking back, acknowledging and valuing our history, achievements and the founding spirit of the NHS.

This is also an opportunity to look forward and highlight our rich future. We'll be showing how we plan to continue to move forward, modernising services, responding to technological change in line with the guiding ethos of the NHS.

You can help! You'll see we're currently working on a special 60th Anniversary edition of Connections. We need your memories of healthcare in Lothian - either as a patient or working within the NHS - and would be delighted to receive your stories or photographs for potential inclusion.

NHS Lothian Events

Open Days -we're having open days at each of the major hospitals within Lothian where we will showcase our innovative work. These will be organised throughout the year and not confined to just the month of July.

Exhibition - we're pulling together an exhibition of photography and other items/ memorabilia from the past six decades. This will travel round our sites. The Medical Staff Committee at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is also planning its own exhibition, which will tour round the major hospitals across the University Hospitals Division. Art committees at major sites are also planning to mark the anniversary. The RIE Art Committee is opening an exhibition on 5th July entitled "Narratives" which comprises 5 installations of historic bed plaques from the old RIE. The RIE Main Mall also has a timeline which has recently opened which shows the history of the RIE.

Connections - The July/August edition of Connections will include a special four-page pull-out on the 60th Anniversary. Please send your stories/ photographs to lothian.communications@nhs.net for potential inclusion in this special souvenir edition.
