Making Patients' Rights a Reality - National Consultation Events

The Scottish Government launched its consultation on a Patients' Rights Bill for users of the NHS in Scotland on 22nd September 2008. This is in line with the commitment made in the Better Health, Better Care Action Plan, and is one of the key steps that the Scottish Government is taking towards developing a mutual NHS in Scotland and will run until 16 January 2009.

To ensure that as many people as possible get the opportunity to discuss, consider and respond to the consultation, two national consultation events are being organised. The national events will be held on:

  • 25 November 2008 in The George Hotel, Edinburgh (Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing will attend); and
  • 5 December 2008 in Inverness (venue to be confirmed) (Dr Kevin Woods, Director General Health and Chief Executive of the NHS in Scotland will attend)

The Scottish Government would urge patients, patient groups, voluntary sector organisations with an interest in health and NHS staff to attend. Places at these events are limited so anyone interested in attending should register their interest by visiting the NHS National Services Scotland website at: http://conventions.nss.scot.nhs.uk and selecting the event they wish to attend. "

The Scottish Government states that the consultation document can be obtained from www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations
