Response to Daily Record

Dr Richard Othieno, Consultant in Public Health, NHS Lothian, said:

"NHS Lothian was alerted yesterday to the death of a man in Edinburgh. Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of death does not have wider public health implications. A post mortem will be held tomorrow (Thursday, 14th of Aug).
"As a precaution, a small number of people who had worked in the same area were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for medical checks after complaining of flu-like symptoms. Routine tests were conducted and no-one was admitted to hospital."
"A meeting involving a number of agencies has been held to assess potential risks to the public. NHS Lothian will continue to monitor the situation."
