What type?

The four main types of physical activity are aerobic, muscle-strengthening, bone-strengthening, and stretching. Aerobic activity is the type that benefits your heart and lungs the most.

Aerobic activity is good for your heart and lungs as it gets your heart beating faster and you breathing faster. Walking, running, swimming, cycling, and dancing are all examples.

Muscle strengthing is any activity that improves strength, power and tone of the muscles. Some examples are climbing the stairs, push ups, sit ups, lifting, carrying, and digging in the garden.

Bone strengthening is anything that supports your body's weight and allows your muscles to work against your bones. Aerobic activity is often bone strengthening, such as walking, running and skipping. Lifting and carrying also.

Stretching improves your flexibility and range of movement in your joints. You don't have to join a yoga class to become more flexible (though it is a great way), you can do stretching exercise at home or after doing an activity. Some example are touching your toes, reaching, side stretches.
