If you think you are pregnant, you can either buy a home pregnancy testing kit from a pharmacy or supermarket, or ask your GP.
Home pregnancy testing kits are very accurate and there is usually no need for further testing.
Your pregnancy test is positive – what next?
Now that you know you are pregnant, the first thing you should do is call us on 0131 536 2009 to arrange an appointment with a midwife.
Or if you are unsure about continuing with the pregnancy, you should call or visit your GP or local sexual health clinic as soon as possible for advice and support. More information and advice can be found on the Lothian Sexual Health website.
If you are in crisis and urgently need to talk to someone, call NHS 24 on 111.
How do I book with a midwife?
To make an appointment call NHS Lothian maternity services on 0131 536 2009.
Lines are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.45pm. Select the option that lets you make an appointment.
We will then ask you for some details, and give you:
- an appointment with a midwife for around 8-10 weeks into your pregnancy
- a scan appointment for 11-14 weeks
If you require an interpreter for the appointments this will also be booked at this time.
Details of these appointments and some information leaflets will be posted out to you within two weeks.
