While advances in medical care and social conditions have dramatically improved the health of children in Scotland, it is only natural for parents to have concerns if their child falls ill suddenly.
If your child is ill and you are unsure what to do please contact your GP during office hours on Mondays to Fridays. Outside these times, please call NHS 24 on 08454 242424 for further information and advice.
For minor injuries children over 1 year old can be treated at the minor injuries clinic at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.
In the case of an accident or emergency situation, children up to the age of 13 should be taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. If your child is older than 13, please take them to the accident and emergency department at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh or St John's Hospital in Livingston.
