Cycling or Walking

Cycling

You may choose to walk or cycle to your hospital appointment. Bike racks are available at all NHS Lothian hospitals and there is an excellent network of cycling routes across the city of Edinburgh and beyond. For more details of these, Spokes – the Lothian Cycle Network – has an excellent website, which includes maps for cyclists, which you will find at http://www.spokes.org.uk/spokes-maps/

Cyclists, please note that bike locks are not provided at hospital sites and bikes and accessories are left at the owner’s risk.

Walking

If you prefer to walk to hospital, you can get a route map between any two points (e.g. your home and the hospital) by visiting, the website at www.walkit.com - the urban walking route planner. This website will give you information such as your journey time, calorie burn, step count and carbon saving. It’s quick, free, healthy and green.

If you decide to walk or cycle to hospital, please consider whether you will need to be accompanied on your return trip home.
