Events Programme

Find details here of all the public events planned throughout the year to mark the Bicentenary 1813-2013...


On 19 July it will be 200 years to the day that the first patient was admitted to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

To mark this important day, special events have been arranged for staff, patients, relatives and members of the public to enjoy:

Monday 15th

  • 11am - 3pm: Courtyard concerts. Students from the Edinburgh University Music Society will be performing on site (all welcome)

Tuesday 16th

  • 12.30 - 1pm: Cairn String Quartet in the canteen (all welcome)
  • 1.30 - 2pm:  Cairn String Quartet concert on ward (staff, patients and relatives welcome)
  • 2.30 - 3.30pm: Heart and Soul Singsters concert at the Verandah Tearoom with the Cairn String Quartet (all welcome)

Wednesday 17th

  • 1.30-2.30pm: Roots and Shoots Exhibition in the Link Gallery (all welcome)

Thursday 18th

  • 12-1.30pm: Summer Picnic Lunch at the Glasshouses (all welcome)

Friday 19th

  • 10am-4pm: An unseen collection of bicentenary artefacts (free entry and all welcome)

The display, organised by Artlink, is in the hospital’s History Room and will showcase a collection of objects used by its staff and patients over the past two centuries, including medical instruments, engraved silver and patient photographs.

There will also be cakes on wards and Victorian food dishes in the dining room for staff, patients and relatives to enjoy.

A summer fete is also planned for 14 September – more details to follow soon.
