The outline business case was approved in 2006 and the site for the Midlothian Community Hospital was secured in Spring 2008.

Midlothian Community Hospital

NHS Lothian announced the appointment of the contractor, Robertson Capital Projects, in August 2008.

Robertson Capital Projects obtained full planning permission on 28 August 2008.

Both parties worked together to complete the design process and produce a full business case and business case addendum

By the end of 2008 the full business case was approved by both the Board of NHS Lothian and the Scottish Government.

NHS Lothian and Robertson Capital Projects completed financial close on 9 March 2009 with the signing of the Project Agreement.

This allowed work to begin on site on 23 March 2009.

The hospital was fully operational from September 2010 and was officially opened by Nicola Sturgeon, MSP in September 2011.

The community hospital replaced Rosslynlee and Loanhead hospitals.
